Structure

The Geologycal Survey is a department under the Ministry of Lands, Forestry and Mines, and operates under the Civil Service code. The Geological Survey is headed by a Director and assisted by two Deputy Directors (one for Administration and Finance and the other for Technical Matters). Besides that there are six regional offices (Takoradi, Saltpond, Ho, Koforidua, Kumasi and Tamale) which are headed by Assistant Directors. At the Head Office, there is a temporary structure of Divisional Heads who assists the Directorate in the day to day running of the Department. The GSD total staff amounts to about 310, of which half are based in the GSD Head Quarters in Accra, the remaining are in the six regional offices. The geoscientists amount to about 55.
